Study in Offenburg
The Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering offers four Master's degree programmes for German and foreign students, which are entirely or largely taught in English: Biotechnology (MBT), Energy Conversion and Management (ECM), Process Engineering (MPE) and Power Data Engineering (PDE).
ECM and PDE are completely taught in Offenburg, PDE in cooperation with the Department of Electrical Engineering and Informations Technology (E+I).
MBT and MPE are bi-national programmes in cooperation with the Uniwersystet Warmińsko-Mazurski w Olsztynie (UWM), the University of Warmia and Mazury, in Olsztyn. The courses of the winter semesters take place in Offenburg, those of the summer semesters in Olsztyn. In this way, students from Germany and Poland get to know the other country and its people and culture, while students from third countries even get to know two important European countries.
In non-technical matters, students of these master's degree programmes are additionally provide guidance by the coordinators of the Graduate School and the International Office. The first step in applying for a student place is done online via the Graduate School's OASIS system.
Furthermore, the faculty is also open to foreign students in the bachelor's and master's degree programmes who wish to enrol in German-language programmes or who wish to spend one or two semesters in Offenburg as exchange students. In addition to the specialized studies, German courses of the Language Centre (Sprachenzentrum) or courses on intercultural competence can be taken.
In addition, the university has an attractive, cross-department offer of English-language courses that are suitable for exchange students in the bachelor's programme. It should be noted that the events are held at the two locations in Offenburg and Gengenbach. When booking events at both locations, sufficient time buffers should be provided.
Foreign students are also recommended to take part in the cultural programme and sports activities offered the Student Union (AStA), in order to get in touch with German students.
The Institut für wissenschaftliche Weiterbildung (Institute for Continuing Academic Education, IWB) offers continuing education at a scientific level for persons already working.
