Overview

The fluid machinery lab is used for various projects. The focus is on student work, some of which are integrated into government-financed projects. The topics deal with detailed investigations of the machines. This includes measurements on the test bench as well as computatiol fluid dynamics. In addition, new test stands are developed and existing test stands are improved. The focus is on measurement technology and control via the corresponding software.

Radial compressor

As part of thesis and project work, two high-performance radial compressors are measured experimentally and investigated using CFD. The measurements of the two compressors with 18 kW and 75 kW drive power on the turbo compressor test bench allow the creation of characterisitc maps as well as analyzing the behavior of the machine in the limit areas. After checking the simulation results with test bench measurements, the CFD models are used to analyze the precise flow conditions and to develop possibilities for optimization.

Digital twin

Virtual images of real products, systems or processes are called digital twins. By linking digital twins with their real twins and comparing them, valuable knowledge can be gained for the optimization, development and maintenance of products and systems.

In the “Digital Twin” project, the basic concept of digital twins is being investigated as part of student work and digital twins are being developed as examples from test facilities.
